PUBLIC sector telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched its handset-neutral and comparatively economical Push email service ‘BSNL-Bharat Berry’ here on Friday. BSNL has collaborated with Bharat Berry Technologies to provide the services for all its GSM mobile subscribers.

“In Maharashtra, BSNL has four lakh prepaid and one lakh post-paid customers. All of them can subscribe to the service. The main feature is that the service provides the push mail service at a nominal price of Rs 50 a month,” V K Mahendra. principal general manager, BSNL, Pune said.

Through this service BSNL is targeting students and those who can not afford to use Blackberry service.

“While it is mandatory to have a Blackberry handset to use the service, Bharat Berry service can be activated on any handset, which have BSNL subscription. Over 3,000 mobile handsets support the service including those which are priced Rs 1,500-2,000 and come without an internet browser,” said Mahendra.

Like Blackberry, the Bharat Berry gives an always-on capability service by which new emails are actively transferred. In addition to this the users can create cloud-based backup of contacts,tasks, calendar and notes.

Ajay Data, CMD Bharat Berry service said the efforts are being taken to come up with similar arrangement with other service providers. Low price of the service should not give a poor impression of the service, he added.
